The European Commission adopted an ambitious Circular Economy Package, that will help stimulate Europe's transition towards a circular economy, foster sustainable economic growth and generate new jobs.
The Package consists of an EU Action Plan for the Circular Economy that establishes an programme of action, aimed to "closing the loop" of products through recycling and re-use.
The overall aim of CircleVET is to evaluate and exchange smart practice methods on circular economy skills in VET. We want to create a comprehensive compendium of hands-on methods on European level.
The first phase will be a desktop-research on identifying smart practices in teaching and applying circular economy principles based on critical design thinking and co-design.
Parallel a need assessment will be launched in order to understand the demands of the education provider in the three chosen case study sectors (Fashion, co-working, recycling) and the learners in the partnership countries.
The results will be presented at Transnational Meetings and will result in an assessment system for smart practices, suited for the self-assessment of educators and a synthesis report.
The collected practices, methods and experiences are tested and reviewed in three thematics training labs:
1. Testing circular methods in Fashion
2. Testing circular methods in Recycling
3. Testing circular methods for co-working and innovation hubs
To achieve this main goal the implementation phase of the project will lead to 4 main results:
Result 1: Elaboration of at least 70 smart practice methods of teaching and training circular skills in Europe
Result 2: The development of an assessment tool/ criteria catalogue
Result 3: policy recommendation.
Result 4: A project eBook.
The smart practice assessment is based on the ‘Eightfold Path analysis’ developed by Bardach:
1. the partnership develop a realistic expectation by getting to know the field.
2. We analyze practices and compare them with a criteria Catalogue.
3. We test the practice.
4. We create a SWOT analysis and reflect on the transferability.
5. We document and review the practices with recommendations on where and how to use them.
Methodology of the Training labs
The design of the training labs will be based on Kolb's experiential learning theory, represented by a four stage cycle:
- Concrete Experience
- Reflective Observation of the new experience
- Abstract Reflection,
- Active Experimentation
Co-creation labs typically involve hands-on activities in which a varied group of peers expresses experiences and explorer potential solutions. An embedded process is co-discovery, involving the participants to explore a topic in a collaborative setting. Co-creation labs also facilitate and enable speculation. This is a way to use the current desires, struggles and experiences of the participants as a jumping-off point to look into the future.
Collaborating in this way provokes discussion and creates valuable insights into all aspects of a topic being investigated and (re)designed. Participants become deeply involved and especially in a peer-learning setting, create tailored solutions for their everyday world.
We expect all participants of the project to be more conscious about the necessary circular economy skills in their work. We expect them to be ready to share their new knowledge, to teach and encourage others to understand the ongoing transition towards circular economy and its potential. We expect that the facilitators will gain new tools to train and teach social innovation in VET. The method handbook will provide easy hands-on tools, providing innovative methods, which will motivate the learners to stay involved. The learners learn new skills, strengthen their awareness on new transformational processes in economy and make them aware of their potentials as entrepreneurs.
On the local level the project will result in an increase of awareness on circular economy and the potential of local loops, especially in our three case study sectors fashion, coworking and recycling. We expect to influence with the recommendations and smart practices European discourses on teaching and learning skills needed for the circular economy future. The practice evaluations and the training modules are aimed to gain impact on scientific research, but as well curricula design in school, adult, youth and vocational education providers.
The continuing development of a European network of circular co-creation hubs will enable a wide sharing of the training modules and will enable users’ skills which will ensure that this circula economy continues to go forward with strength, recognition and provide a pathway to further education, mobilisation and greater social innovation.
"United Services for Social Enterprises" (USER-SE) is a project, created through a strategic partnership between six countries: Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany, France and Greece. The project wants to address the main issues that limit the development of the social enterprise's (SE) sector, such as the poor understanding of the role of this type of companies in society, the lack of visibility, the need for business development and support services such as tutoring and training programs, investment support, etc. The survival and growth of SE are influenced by internal factors such as the lack of feasible business models, high dependence on the public sector as a source of income, lack of commercial acumen, entrepreneurial spirit and skills, managerial and professional skills necessary for strengthening the activity.
USER-SE intends to strengthen training, the exchange of good practices and experiences in social entrepreneurship, increasing skills among partner organizations, spreading and enhancing the social approach in local communities, increasing the recognition and visibility of social enterprises, but also in a broader way, creating supporting tools such as the "One-stop service for Social Enterprise" that in a virtual scenario with different actors and organizations connected to the sector, will increases the entrepreneurial culture, stimulating the social approach and, in the training field, growing the knowledge on the subject.
Objectives of the project are:
USER-SE involves staff members of the partnership formed by trainers, tutors, educators, training and education professionals for a total of 18 participants, three for each partner institution. The project through 6 training activities on the social enterprise and 3 transnational meetings will produce as main results the online “One-stop service for Social Enterprise online” and a “Report on best practices”.

The project "Europe City Teller - cultural mediation and storytelling for tourism, between theater, multimedia and storytelling" (acronym "EU-ACT") operates in the European cultural tourism sector, with the aim of developing a quality offer, promoting local customs and traditions, paying attention to sustainability, protecting and enhancing the heritage, landscapes and local culture.
The EU-ACT project intends to integrate itself into the transnational cultural tourism strategy promoted by the European Commission, which aims to carry out a series of activities to promote transnational tourism skills and products in relation to specific themes with significant growth potential and to respond to social concerns, to problems of territorial cohesion and of protection/enhancement of natural and cultural heritages.
The main objective of EU-ACT is to transfer to operators, educators and mediators, new knowledge and skills in the field of cultural mediation and theatrical and digital storytelling, with the aim of co-creating new cultural tourism products spendable on the market.
EU-ACT intends to accompany the realization of these products, through international experiences, promoted by a strategic partnership, made up of organizations with many experiences in the fields of theater, design and digital programming, methodologies of storytelling applied to cultural heritage, coming from Italy, Poland, Hungary, Germany and the UK.
The project will have a total duration of 27 months, and includes:
- training activities
- various project meetings,
related to the realization of 3 intellectual products that will be presented later in the multiplier events that each partner will organize in its respective chosen city and which will be addressed to an audience of citizens and tourists European/non-European.
The project involves the creation of the following 3 intellectual outputs:
1. Live interpretation: route of theatrical visits, with "live-actors", that in historical clothes, will tell the main points of historical-artistic interest of the European cities involved
2. An online platform with an in-depth analysis of the contents produced by the project (to encourage the experience both before and after the events)
3. An APP in augmented reality, for mobile devices, connected to a paper/game guide, to permit to:
- benefit from the contents created in real time
- conduct the public to discover the path imagined with video-animations
The activities of the project are imagined to generate a great impact in terms of acquiring new skills, knowledge and experience in the field of enhancement and promotion of cultural heritage.
The project plans to
1. implement new training methodologies
2. increase the knowledge of the European cultural heritage
3. give access to the European cultural heritage through the web and digital technologies
4. transfer educational methodologies

In the EU, selling to visitors who speak many diverse languages is vital, but challenging. Growing tourism in the EU is a key objective, it is the 3rd largest sector, employing 17 million people. The European Commission communication ‘Europe, the world’s No. 1 tourist destination — a new political framework for tourism in Europe’ (COM(2010) 352) was adopted in 2010. It demands a coordinated approach for initiatives linked to tourism and defined a new framework for action to increase the competitiveness of tourism and its capacity for sustainable growth. Missed business opportunities due to language skill shortages are magnified by the huge scale and growth of the tourism sector. This is particularly a problem for niche sector tourism companies.
This project is innovative compared to standard tourism based language training, it aims to map the key language needs of 4 niche sectors. These subsectors will then support the building of a web and mobile based language application for the use of early stage language learning.
This approach of being driven by the needs of the tourism sector by identifying common threads to put into the app is not only unique in that it covers multiple niches in the tourism industry but it allows the ‘core’ vocabulary to be used by other tourism subsectors.
The key results will be:
1 A mobile and web based learning application with audiovisual material will be developed through a unique collaboration which enables instantaneous and fully flexible translation between all 14 languages for both the core (everyday) and sector specific (specialist/niche) words and phrases.
2 The project will develop a partnership between the language experts, 4 niche tourism sector providers and the ICT provider to enable the most user friendly and flexible tool to be tailored to suit the needs of all users. The tool will allow two-way translation and learning of key words and phrases.
3 200 individuals as a minimum will test and validate the app, learners being drawn from the 4 target niche sector groups.
4 Total usage levels will be monitored - we expect open access traffic to exceed at least 2000 users by project end and 4 additional niche sectors to have adopted its use.
The project will support 14 languages, chosen on three criteria:
- The Erasmus Plus Programme states most visited by non-residents for tourism are in order of visitor numbers: Spain, Italy, France, UK, Austria, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Portugal, Turkey.
- The main non EU countries of origin for tourist visitors to the EU are USA, Russia, China, Japan and Brazil (44% of non EU tourists visiting the EU in total). Eurostat 9/2015.
- Significant growth in tourism is also occurring from India and Arab speaking countries e.g. Indian tourism to the EU grew 40% between 2009-12 and they have a large and fast growing middle class.
The 4 niche sectors we will target to develop niche/specialist vocabulary are:
1) Cultural tourism: may include history, arts, architecture, museums, theatre, heritage, and indigenous peoples. The ‘Grand Tour of Europe’ is the most recognizable early example of cultural tourism.
2) City tourism: e.g. city sightseeing, city breaks, shopping, health resorts/spas, conferences/conventions/business tourism, sports requiring man made infrastructures such as arenas and stadia.
3) Rural tourism: e.g. most aspects of the following: walking, climbing, adventure holidays, canoeing, rafting, skiing, hunting, angling, cycling, horse riding, mountain biking, farm holidays.
4) Sustainable tourism: this would include eco-tourism and large parts of the agritourism subsector.
The 1000 words and phrases will be developed on the following basis. 400 words will be everyday or core words, the basic building blocks for speaking a language. (We will include a good proportion of everyday words and phrases that a tourist is likely to want to use or understand). 600 specialist words and phrases will be developed, spread across the 4 niche tourism areas described above.
The vision of the project is to increase the use of foreign language in the tourism sector, giving even small businesses the chance to grow and benefit of incoming guests from outside the EU.

The artist within – Applied eMOTION is a long-term European project funded by the Erasmus+ program. The strategic partnership’s aim is to share best practices between sectors and methods connected to art expressions. We support institutions in empowering their colleagues and target groups to develop their entrepreneurship and related skills by using different artistic tools in individual and group work.
We foresee that the transfer and/or implementation of innovative practices with the partners’ results in a greater understanding and responsiveness to social, psychological and cultural diversity of the target groups. In addition to that, professional development and sectorial cooperation will be reached at organisational, local, regional, national, or European levels.
Art does not solve problems, but makes us aware of their existence and through different ways of expression (especially having an integrative approach) we can work with the problems and lead them to another level of understanding.
EuroQualiTrain - European Qualification and Training was a mobility project developed to qualify the staff of the Comparative Research Network, according to our European Development Plan.
The project aimed to increase the knowledge and experience of our trainers, extend our networks in Europe, to internationalize our work, and initiated a broad trans-European exchange and reflection on our curricula on an international level.
The project supported lifelong learning and mobility of our staff and improved the quality and efficiency of vocational training among the partner network. The improved curricula, higher qualified and motivated trainers increased the interest of the learners in our trainings.
The achievements had been far over exceeded by the involvement of migrants, young staff members and members currently changing profession.
In total 12 mobilities took place with 8 staff members.
Gender: 4 males – 4 females
The age groups comprised the range from 24-47. 3 participants had been young trainers (age 24, 27,30) 3 participants experienced trainer (age 35, 37, 38) and 2 senior trainers (age 40, 46).
Professional backgrounds: 3 trainers had been new trainer, 2 participants had re-entered the work market as trainer after migration. 2 participants worked more than 10 years in the field.
2 trainer had German as first languages, while 6 participants have migration background.
The project had been organised through training and teaching activities.
The training courses concerned topics like community reporting, leadership, using art, theatre and creativity in training, increasing ICT skills, MOCCs, gamification, storytelling and non-verbal intercultural methods.
The teaching activities had been in the fields digital storytelling in intercultural context, gender equality and migration and intercultural skills in youth work.
